It’s splendid to see Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce on the job of sorting out the teachers’ pay fiasco.
Steven, of course, was given responsibility for Novopay in the Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday.
Just between us, it was a bungled reshuffle, because the obvious talents of the Member for Eketahuna North were egregiously overloooked.
But that’s by the way and Steven has wasted no time in showing the Novopay bunch he is not to be messed with.
He met representatives of Talent2, the company that developed the trouble-plagued Novopay system, on Thursday.
And was there blood on the floor afterwards?
Radio NZ reports on the meeting today (here) –
Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce says he has made sure the Australian company behind the Novopay payroll system is in no doubt about the seriousness of problems with the error-plagued system.
Betcha that rattled the bastards.
He would not comment on who is to blame for the problems, or on whether they have been sufficient to trigger penalty payments by Talent2.
But (and here comes more evidence of why The Boss brought in the heavyweight Lord High Everything to deal with the matter) –
Mr Joyce said he wanted Talent2 to be clear about what people think of the problems that have affected school payrolls since its introduction in August.
This bungled pay stuff has gone on for months.
The news media have been full of expressions of outrage.
But obviously Steven decided that Talent2 can’t read, hear or see.
His first step accordingly was a masterstroke.
He told them they had a problem.
