The boss delivered another damned good speech in Auckland yesterday.

He said (see here) the New Zealand economy is emerging from tough economic times.

Alf’s has a vague memory of him saying something similar a few years ago.

But that was then and now is now.

And he is not being unduly optimistic about the outlook.

Farmers offered drought help

Farmers in drought-hit parts of Hawke’s Bay will be cheered by news on two fronts.

The Government has announced plans to help them.

Federated Farmers has done the same.

It’s the third successive year of drought for Hawke’s Bay.

Heavy rain has fallen over many parts of the country in recent days, sure, but much of the Hawke’s Bay province missed out.

Drought areas are being monitored

Farmer readers – especially those in drought areas – should be alerted to a statement today from Agriculture Minister David Carter.

He says the Government is keeping an eye on things, out there in areas starved of rain. And Alf is confident MAF will make a much better fist of its monitoring than the Corrections Department has been doing with managing dangerous offenders on parole).
